The New Preparatory Middle School 8, located in the heart of Jamaica, New York is known as The Best Kept Secret in Queens. The secret is that despite all odds, all learners are empowered to succeed! Our goal is to support each scholar in discovering and developing their innate and creative potential by exposing them to a highly diverse curriculum. In this way, we shall forge a path to academic excellence! Our strong belief in youth development is evident in our programs. We dedicate ourselves to the development of the “whole child”. Scholars are programmed for an additional hour of instruction each day to receive extra academic support. We offer our 8th grade scholars Regents classes. They learn 9th grade Algebra I and, 9th grade Environmental Science. We also offer “Arts in Education” where academics meet the arts. Our interdisciplinary approach is paramount to meeting the needs of our diverse learners. In the classroom, scholars learn and apply real life concepts through cooperative learning, use of technology and engaging activities to ensure college and career readiness, resulting in scholars becoming critical thinkers and ambassadors of their own learning. Scholars are prepared to enter the high school of their choice, as knowledgeable thinkers and self-directed learners.
New Preparatory Middle School has a legacy of producing “winners”! Former graduates include, State Senator Leroy Comrie, 2016 Olympics Track & Field gold medalist, Dalilah Muhammad, dancer Makeesha Hill and basketball star Isiah Stokely to name a few. We strive to continue providing our scholars with the tools to become college and career ready, as well as equipping them to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Our journey never ends, we aim to continue “Journeying Toward Excellence”.
